2021 Skylight Internships

Recognized nationally as a powerhouse of new play development, Skylight Theatre Company expands the boundaries of mainstream theatre through the telling of relevant and more inclusive stories. Dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion in our work and the people we work with, Skylight discovers, develops and produces acclaimed and award-winning world premiere plays that are produced nationwide providing rising artists opportunities beyond Los Angeles.

Two internships are offered through the LA County Arts Commission.  Applicants must meet their requirements to apply.

Production Intern

Description

Help launch a new play and support ongoing play development at a professional intimate theatre with national and Off Broadway productions. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that creates opportunities for diverse artists and shapes theatre that’s challenging, imaginative, relevant and inclusive on stage and online. You'll work virtually and in-person.

This is a paid Internship working approximately 15-20 hours a week from August through December 2021.

Qualifications

The PRODUCTION INTERN must possess strong interpersonal skills, be a self-starter that is flexible and collaborative, and be an excellent communicator with a positive attitude. The position requires an aptitude for problem solving, multi-tasking, and time management, along with an understanding of how a play is produced (prior stage management experience is preferred). To be successful the Intern will need an ability to take detailed notes, then organize, coordinate and follow-through on tasks to ensure that deadlines are met. They need to be able to communicate clearly in writing and not hesitate to call people on the phone. Good office skills and solid computer skills are a must, including Microsoft Word and Excel; OBS streaming software experience a plus. Evening, weekday, and weekend hours are required, as is reliable transportation that allows you to run errands or work at multiple locations.

Communications and Development Intern

Description

Connect people. Create community and help create greater opportunities for diverse local artists at a professional intimate theatre with Off Broadway productions and national exposure. You’ll work at the center of a collaborative team that believes in building connections, the importance of theatre as an essential cultural force, and the artist’s power to create understanding and nurture positive social change.

This is a paid Internship working approximately 15-20 hours a week from September 2021 to January 2022.

Qualifications

The COMMUNICATIONS AND DEVELOPMENT INTERN must possess strong interpersonal skills, be an excellent communicator both in person and on paper, as well as a self-starter. They need solid administrative and computer skills, along with a better than average knowledge of Social Media platforms, Microsoft Word, Excel and online research. To be successful, they should be socially aware, and comfortable talking with strangers and people of diverse backgrounds, ages and experiences in person or over the phone. They should have an attitude that is positive and upbeat, be collaborative, flexible, and skilled at multi-tasking and completing tasks accurately and on time. Practical knowledge about theatre is very helpful. Evening, weekday, and weekend hours are required, along with reliable transportation that allows you to work at multiple locations in the same day when necessary.
