2022 Skylight Internships

Recognized nationally as a powerhouse of new play development, Skylight Theatre Company expands the boundaries of mainstream theatre through the telling of relevant and more inclusive stories. Dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion in our work and the people we work with, Skylight discovers, develops and produces acclaimed and award-winning world premiere plays that are produced nationwide providing rising artists opportunities beyond Los Angeles.

Two internships are offered through the LA County Arts Commission.  Applicants must meet their requirements to apply.

Work at Skylight Theatre, Intership

Production Intern - filled

Description

Work alongside the Artistic Director, Staff, and Creative Teams to mount a world premiere play that is challenging, relevant, and inclusive. You'll be part of a collaborative team participating in the day-to-day activities of a professional theatrical production (attending rehearsals, providing production support, scheduling, etc.), and utilizing your skills to contribute to the play development program.

The paid internship, scheduled to coincide with third play of the 2021/2022 Collaborative Season, is designed for 30-40 hours a week, June through August 2022.

Qualifications

The PRODUCTION INTERN must possess strong interpersonal skills, be a self-starter, flexible and collaborative, and be an excellent communicator with a positive attitude. You need an aptitude for problem solving, multi-tasking, and time management, along with an understanding of how a play is produced (prior stage management experience is preferred). To be successful you’ll need an ability to take detailed notes, organize, coordinate and follow-through on tasks to ensure deadlines are met. You need to be able to communicate clearly in writing and not hesitate to call people on the phone. Good office skills and solid computer skills are a must, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Evening, weekday, and weekend hours are required, as is reliable transportation that allows you to run errands or work at multiple locations. While requirements may change, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required and masks must be worn by anyone who enters the theater.

Production and Community Impact Intern - filled

Description

Create community and greater opportunities for diverse local artists at a professional intimate theatre with Off Broadway productions and national exposure. You’ll work with artistic, program and administrative staff to improve opportunities for cultural engagement and access so that the values of equity, diversity and inclusion are reflected in Skylight’s audiences. You'll help build relationships and engagement opportunities with Los Angeles communities and organizations that would be interested in, or are affected by, the subject matter of the play. Outreach activities are supported by Skylight's Ticket Initiative subsidy, marketing, and public relations.

Qualifications

The PRODUCTION AND COMMUNITY IMPACT INTERN must possess strong interpersonal skills, be an excellent communicator in person and on paper, a self-starter, socially aware, and be comfortable with people of diverse backgrounds in person or over the phone. They need solid administrative and computer skills, a better than average knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and how to do research (incl. in depth social media research). They should have a positive upbeat attitude, be collaborative, flexible, and able to complete tasks accurately and on time. Practical knowledge about theater is very helpful. Evening, weekday, and weekend hours are required, along with reliable transportation that allows you to travel easily across Los Angeles to deliver materials, participate in meetings and events at multiple locations in the same day when necessary.
