Selected playwrights will have the opportunity to share excerpts of their work in progress each week, gaining feedback from colleagues and visitors, and building artistic community within the Skylight network. The group will be moderated by Artistic Director Cameron Watson and Associate Producer Logan Ellis, with guest playwrights, directors, and dramaturgs visiting throughout. Participation is free.
Applying writers are encouraged to submit proposals for plays (or musicals) that they are currently writing on or just starting. The ideal projects for this workshop have not yet reached a first full draft. Works that have already been staged or had professional readings are less likely to be selected. Writing duos or small teams will be considered as one entry and afforded the same time in the workshop as solo playwrights. There is not an expectation that full drafts will be reached by the end of the workshop, but rather that the group can help participants grow in their work each week. Skylight claims no rights holdings over any material created in the club, and there is no commitment to produce generated works.
Skylight's legacy of new play development spans four decades, and we are proud to be taking this step to build a robust future of support for local playwrights. As our new leadership team works to assemble our upcoming season of full productions, we are excited to hold this space for writers at work on their newest creations.
