“It's all about the play. Skylight's focus is on bringing the writer's vision to the stage and our programs are built to achieve that. We believe in the power of the artist to transform lives, and in the theatre it all starts with the writer's words.”
- Gary Grossman
SkyLab
SkyLab is the overarching program that houses Skylight Theatre Company’s new play development activities. Our producing artistic director Gary Grossman and executive director Armando Huipe, in partnership, source and invest in new plays by playwrights who are contributing to the local and regional conversations happening in Los Feliz and across Los Angeles. Grossman and Huipe work hand-in-hand with the playwright to conceive of what kind of process their play can benefit from the most based on the current draft of the script. We typically pair the playwright with a director and convene a company of actors so that new drafts can be heard out loud between writing days. A decision is made before each workshop whether a draft could be ready for a small private audience in order to continue learning about the play.
